A Short Introduction To Funki Diva!

Hi, I'm Amy and if you can spare a couple of minutes to read this, here's a brief insight into my life!

I left school after A Levels and like most people, still not knowing what I wanted to do with my life.  I thought of going to university, but instead found myself a job with nothing at all to do with art - a secretary.   I can't say I regretted not going onto university but there has always been that thought of "what if?" 

Around six years ago now, I was bored, I was looking for a hobby. Nothing was really jumping out at me and I had no idea what I fancied trying. One day my sister came to me literally moaning about a pair of earring style she wanted but couldn’t find anywhere, i’ll never regret what i did next. I ran to a hobby shop. Hey presto! I had a new hobby.  I took to it like a duck to water, before I knew it my bedroom was full of beads, findings, books and everything else you can imagine to do with beads!!   A hobby for when I was bored gradually turned into another way of life. Family and friends were commenting on the items I was wearing. It snowballed! It gave me a great sense of satisfaction hearing the comments about MY jewellery, jewellery I had made! I started making more and more, and the comments kept coming!

Then last year a friend of mine came up with a suggestion: “Why don’t you turn your hobby into a business. Share your Jewellery. It’s a shame to keep any form of art boxed up!” (You guessed it, she’s an art manic!). So, what was once a hobby soon turned into a full time passion. This was how Funki Diva was born.

My feminine and often whimsical designs are based on a combination of the vivid colors and rich textures. With classic notions of adornment from inspiration I get just by seeing the beautiful scenery here on the small islands of Malta, Comino and mainly Gozo. Our rainy winters allow me plenty of time to play at my workbench and dream up new and exciting jewellery designs. Inspiration looms on me not only just by the views but also by items found along beaches and in the surrounding wild life. Such as seashells, sea glass, pebbles, wild flowers and other objects.

 

My current passion is combining classic elegance with everyday casual to create a treasure that can be worn anytime anywhere. So, I hope I am creating beautiful things that will make you look and feel gorgeous, and will be treasured for years to come and for you to get as much pleasure from wearing the items as I do from making them.

Funki Diva jewellery is designed to reflect and enhance the unique style of the wearer. I never follow a trend simply because everyone is craving it and I design pieces that I believe in and that represent me. Style is a means of expression and is how you present yourself to the world. I steer towards simple, minimalist designs.

Each piece is created with individuality in mind, that’s why, no two pieces are the same. Therefore, since each piece is unique, once it has been sold, it’s gone. The highest quality materials are used in my pieces and i strive to ensure that all of the pieces I create are built to last a lifetime.
